According to a member of parliament named Samuel Nartey George, the Ghanaian military is hesitant to travel to Bawku to defend important individuals.

On Wednesday, April 5, he said that the Military was unable to provide protection to the House Select Committee on Defence and Interior, which had made the decision to travel to Bawku in order to determine for themselves the actual situation on the ground.

He asserted that the committee decided to cancel their travel halfway to Bawku after receiving information to the effect that it wouldn’t be secure for them to arrive there.

“Our army is reluctant to enter Bawku to safeguard the defense and interior parliamentary committees, despite the possibility that they would travel to Ashaiman and brutalize civilians. Sam George advised, “If you’re strong, go deal with those responsible for the misbehavior in Bawku’s lads.

He added that it was vital to look into how some Bawku people obtained the advanced weaponry they were carrying.

According to him, there is cause for concern given the types of weapons the locals are carrying.

“According to the individuals on the Bawku battlefield, a fight is taking place based on the caliber of the weapons there. How are the weapons getting to them? How do they obtain the weapons? Who is funding the fighting in Bawku? The fundamental inquiries that we must pose to ourselves are these.

“Bawku’s size is? How many people live in Bawku? Can’t our intelligence wing, whether it is National Security or NIB, and all the nebulous entities we have who terrorize civilians without cause, tell us that they can’t use intelligence to identify the kingpins responsible for this and pick them up?

Now that our military is unable to enter Bawku, despite the fact that we claim to have an army, he continued, “our Commander in Chief doesn’t perceive that there is an issue here.”
